Promoters are not viewing my profile

After writing to reverbnation's support desk, I learned how to see how many views my profile actually gets from promoters. However, I still have many questions and can't seem to get answers. For example, how can I confirm that there isn't a glitch with my submissions? For example, in April alone, I submitted to 30 different opportunties, yet not one promoter actually viewed our profile. In fact only 7 promoters have viewed our profile ever - and that was mostly in 2013. We play out frequently, typically have high ranking, submit to many very appropriate events, and pay a monthly RPK fee. I would really like to understand better how the system works - in other words, how RPKs are fed to promoters, whether there is criteria that wees certain artists out, or whether it's possible we are simply not showing up for some reason? What are other artists experience, knowlege in this area? Or can reverbnation offer some more feedback or look into this?

I apologize if your experience hasn't been the best with RPK's. I assure you that submissions are working across the board and if that were to ever break or yield a bug it would be a site wide issue we would address publicly.

Each Opportunity is run by a different 3rd party promoter so what they're looking for won't always be the same as what the next promoter is looking for. Sometimes it can be helpful to see who was picked or who won a certain opportunity that you submitted to in order to get an idea of what their sound is like to compare and contrast with your own submission.

Basically, there are 3 main ways to use our RPK feature (there are more, but most artists utilize them in these areas):

    1. Submitting to Opportunities on ReverbNation - You may have noticed a menu labelled "Opportunities". This is where we list festivals and events that artists on the site can submit to be a part of. Each of these opportunities only accept RPKs, so the only way to submit is to have one. ReverbNation also doesn't take a portion of the submission fee, keeping them historically lower than competitors like SonicBids, etc. You can even set preferences (under your Account > Preferences section, accessible through your User Menu) about what type of events you want to be notified about.

    2. GigFinder - We have a great search function of our venue database called GigFinder. You can submit your RPK to the booking email of any venue with one click. It can be found under your Shows > Gig Finder header. Here's actually a great blog post we did on that: http://blog.reverbnation.com/2010/06/...

    3. Sending out Press Kits on your Own - Of course, you can enter in your own email addresses to send out the Press Kit to for radio stations, venue emails, media contacts, etc. We allow 100 sends per week (essentially it's unsolicited mail) but that number updates not on a weekly basis, but daily. Additionally, we provide a direct URL to your Press Kit you can use as well if you'd rather send out on your own.

A comparison is great and I do that. But I am referring to the fact that our songs were never heard. According the stats link that another employeers provided (see above), our RPK was never viewed. So how would they know whether we fit into what they are looking for? If I submit to a folk opportunity, for example, and we're under the folk genre and have a high ranking, there is no reason why we shouldn't be viewed. Unless other way they have of looking through criteria or we just don't appear at all. That's what I am trying to understand.

Again, 30 submissions on average per month. No views. It doesn't add up.

It doesn't appear to be the case that you aren't receiving any views for your RPK's. It looks like some of the Opportunities you've submitted to haven't reached their submission deadline yet. Again all of these are on different schedules and they each have promoters who will go through all of the submissions for their particular Opportunity in due time. If there are any specific, concluded Opportunities that you submitted to that you don't see were ever viewed; or that you never received a notification regarding- definitely point it out and I'll pass it along to the ReverbLive team. Thanks and sorry for this confusion!

  • When you select for Promoters/Opportunities from the drop-down menu under the RPK activity feed, it narrows it down to only 7 distinct promoters.

Perhaps I'm confused on what this page is including. I have sent emails from reverbnation to fans for example - these also include the RPK so I was assuming that when it defaults to "all activity" under the drop down menu, it is not an accurate picture of what promoters have specifically viewed.

  • You will see that it was viewed by one promoter in February, one promoter in January (for several songs), another time in October, and so on. Does this or does this not include all the promoters that have viewed my RPK so far? Please clarify. Thanks.

That page appears to be very out of date. When I look at your RPK activity feed I can see updates from as recently as 2 hours ago. Try clearing the cache and cookies on your web browser- this might help. The page on your end seems to only be loading old data.

  • Thanks for the reply. I've looked at this page from various computers, so I can't imagine it's the cache, but I will try that per your advice. Apologies for yet more questions, but I really want to understand this better, as I've been on this site for a long time.

In your screenshot, you have again defaulted to "all activity."
In mine, I'm selecting for just promoters/opportunities.
(I was told by Evan to select this if I want to see what specific promoters actually viewed the profile)

In yours, I only see the final answer - as in "dang, you didn't make the cut..."
In mine, I see that they actually played a song, which means they actually had to go to our page.

So I'm still left wondering whether these promoters actually went to the profile itself before making a selection - or whether we've just been included in a mass response by another default - because they do not show up under activity for promoters specifically. Does that make sense?
    • The opportunities just don't work out very well. I don't know why. Not to talk out of school, but, I know a journalist who was on the other end of the Opportunity- people submitted to his popular blog; they had to FaceBook "Like" it but it was free, and he was meant to choose 4 artists to review or something. He told me he got 4000 FB "likes" but couldn't find anyone to review because there were just too many submissions.

When I first started on here, in 2011, I got a couple of them. Now that I'm actually ON the radio (as of next week! woot!), and have a manager, etc, I never get ANYTHING out of those opportunities. Haven't for a few years! And my stuff has obviously gotten better, according to everyone else! (My rank is also always really high, etc, just like you and it didn't used to be...)

Anyway my point is I do like RN because you guys are real and human, but I am frustrated and sort of over these "Opportunities"- also, the fact that Reverb Pro is now an option and I'm stuck paying for the bigger mailing list, RPK, and distro. It kinda sucks... Step it up, guys! Y'all were ace a couple years back.

Thanks for the feedback, Naama. Don't forget that ReverbPro also gives you 2 Digital Distribution credits per year. In my opinion that is perhaps the best value of that bundled service, since the price never goes up but you can continually release new material with the annuals credits.

The Opportunities section is always changing and we are always trying to bring better Opportunities to our user base. It seems you are one of many examples of artists who find initial and/or continued success without this part of the site playing a role. I would argue that is the case for most of the very active users on our site who are are out there playing shows and promoting. However, there are definitely some users on our site have seen their entire career change on the pivot of winning a bigger Opportunity through our site.

Every Artist has their own unique story and path and we try to create a space where a big "boost" can occur, but again it's going to be a very different trip for everyone who is serious about moving themselves and their music forward.

Thanks again for writing, we're happy that you're all here!
